Our major supply source, REA Vipingo Plantations Limited ("RVP"), is quoted on the Nairobi Stock Exchange. Included in the assets of RVP are two working sisal farms in Tanzania - Amboni Plantations Limited ("APL") and two large sisal farms in Kenya - DWA and Vipingo. For marketing purposes, the association with RVP represents in excess of 16,000 tons per year of high quality, decorticated East African sisal. Annual production at APL (Tanzania) is between 5000 and 5500 tons, DWA Estate (Kibwezi, Kenya) is around 6500 tons and at the Vipingo Estate (North of Mombasa, Kenya) it is around 5000 tons. A continued programme of replanting at these estates has seen an increase of more than 2,000 tons in the past 5 years and futher increases are forecast. Such a strong basis in overall level of supply enables Wigglesworth to offer long term continuity of product and quality from this source. Also included within the assets of RVP is the Amboni Spinning Mill, situated at Pongwe, near Tanga. The emphasis of the mill in recent years has moved away from the agricultural twine market towards the higher value, commercial yarn market. The mill machinery has been refurbished and replaced accordingly. Today, the mill has the capacity to produce up to 2,500 tonnes of "finer" yarns per annum as well as more traditional products - baler and binder twine, ropes and general cordage. The "finer" yarns have a variety of uses, but are mostly aimed at the wire rope core and carpet industries world-wide.
